Look Away

Remember before you’re tempted to judge people who use drugs, no one ‘chooses’ to inject in these spaces, this is where the most desperate people in our society have been driven.

Paper Planes

I could not possibly count the number of times I have heard that using drugs means that I am of poor health, unable to have a successful career, unfit to be a mother or some other such thing that in the eyes of the proclaimer would cause me to live less than a full life. None of these things, of course, are true.

Compassion

Sent in by: Kevin Jaffray

I believe compassion to be one of the few things we can practice that will bring immediate and long-term happiness to our lives. I’m not talking about the short-term gratification of pleasures like sex, drugs or gambling (though I’m not knocking them), but something that will bring true and lasting happiness. The kind that sticks.

HIV testing

The HIV outbreak among people who inject drugs in Glasgow highlights the need to maintain HIV testing in this population even when the risk of HIV is perceived as low and despite other priorities for the individual. It was identified that in some services blood-borne virus testing for this population had been focused on hepatitis C, potentially delaying recognition of new cases of HIV. In response to the outbreak, HIV testing has been increased.
