Mitigating Harm, Haven

After she revived the woman by the road, Haven Wheelock made her way back across the road and lit a cigarette. She is known for being calm — even bossy — in a crisis. “Then, as soon as everything is taken care of, I cry,” she says. “Every time.”

Rediscover activism

…we appear to have forgotten how to like and respect people who use drugs… We need to reimagine how harm reduction can work in this austere climate and, yes, maybe this also means we need to rediscover a new style of activism to once again make a difference by keeping people who inject drugs alive and well.

not passionate

It’s not that I’m ‘passionate’ about it. I’m ‘passionate’ about art. I’m not ‘passionate’ about people dying in the streets, I’m fucking angry! Don’t romanticise my anger!

Unsupervised

We have unsupervised injection sites that are located in your local McDonald’s, 7-11, and neighbourhood grocery store bathroom. People die in those situations and no one has ever died at a supervised consumption site..
