The evidence is clear. Reporting stories about deaths from drug use can counter-intuitively make it more attractive for people to use drugs, not less. It can also lead to knee-jerk policy responses that are not evidence based and can be counter productive. Media-driven policy-making has the potential to increase rather than decrease harm.
